The trend of branded disposable cardboard and plastic cups, which has been huge in the world, creates a lot of waste and meaningless coffee drinking moments. It made us wonder whether we can re-think the ‘take away’ coffee -culture could it be taken to next level.

Paulig Muki is a ‘smart coffee cup’ that turns coffee drinking into a social experience. What makes the innovation smart is the e-Ink display integrated on the side of the cup that is powered entirely by the thermal energy from hot coffee.

It’s connected via Bluetooth to a accompanying ‘Paulig Muki’ mobile application. The app let’s the user to control the screen content, and to send pictures to other Mukis. The content is updated on the screen each time you pour hot coffee into the cup.

The thermal energy from one Muki is enough to update the content five to ten times. The E-ink display will keep the last picture on the screen even if energy runs out. The next version of Muki is equipped with a variety of new functionalities, like

The lid has three uniquely designed moving parts assembled together that enables the bullet proof mechanism to work. When cleaning the parts are easy to disassemble.It also has two locking positions when turning: 45 degrees to open and +45 degrees to close.

All materials that touch the coffee and/or the user are FDA approved and food save. The electronics inside Muki are made of conventional components required for its functionality.
